From design to screen printing
The British typography enthusiast Martin Kaye (1932-1989) designed and screen-printed all posters for Paradiso from 1972 to 1983. Kaye’s studio was located in the basement of Paradiso. He printed posters while artists such as Herman Brood, Blondie, Undertones, John Hiatt, The Nits, and many other musicians performed above his head.
Characteristic were his own designed letters, carved by himself in screen-printing film, bold and large. The use of iris printing, which resulted in a colorful rainbow effect, was his trademark. Prominent printers and designers now consider him one of the great names in the history of Dutch screen-printing art.
Paradiso
Paradiso is an entertainment venue located on Weteringschans, near Leidseplein, in Amsterdam. Paradiso is primarily known as a pop music venue. Since its opening in 1968, Paradiso has become a favorite in the music, culture, and club scene.
Printed Heritage now available for Collectors!
The edition of around 100 posters was distributed in Amsterdam, with a limited number of posters preserved from Martin Kaye’s personal archive. In an effort to preserve and share this special legacy, a selection of original Paradiso posters from the private collection of Ed Visser, curator of the Paradiso Posters Collection, is now available for purchase.
Every vintage Paradiso poster in screen print is a unique piece of art. It forms the connection between past and present, between musician and fan, between artist and viewer, between venue and visitor. Don’t miss this opportunity to bring a piece of rock history into your home.
